All I want for X-mas...

Day 29 of the Writer's Guild Strike and there's no end in sight :(
Studio heads, pleeezze give the writers what they deserve so the season of Heroes won't end 2night :(

and I'll be damned if I tune into the lame attempts to fill air time- c'mon people, really? American Gladiators, again? Don't do it Laila, don't do it!

Democracy is for lovers...

Chavez lost the referendum vote (by a slight margin) which would have eliminated presidential term limits and allowed Hugo to hand pick local officials. This allowance was too close to dictatorship than democracy so the opposition made their voice heard loud and clear. Democracy is such a turn on ;-p

How about dem Boys!!!!!!

All my teams won this week! My Cowboys proved they are the best in the NFC by defeating Greenbay 37-27

Yesterday my hs alma mater won the South Carolina div. 3A State Championship! Purple and Gold reigned supreme at 14-12. Wilson is my family's hometown team- I went to Wilson, my daddy went to Wilson, my baby daddy went to Wilson :P LOL. All I have to say is "Goooo TIGERS!"

Sunday we went to BK, in the cold snowy weather to cheer on the Curtis' Varsity squad as they capped their undefeated season off with a win over Canarsie HS in the City Championship game. All I have to say is "We're not #4, #3,#2 but we're #1- Let's Go Cur-Tis!"
"WAR-RI-ORS" ;)

A real Bummer : (

Last night while walking Foxy, a dog was killed :(
There was a dog at the top of my block similar to the dog pictured above. Foxy has become feisty lately so I crossed the street to avoid any problems. The dog was off the leash and there was no owner in sight. The dog gave chase and followed us. I yelled "Someone get your dog!" as I pulled Foxy up the street. I wasn't threatened by the dog but this little dog was relentless it kept trying to run up on Foxy. Next thing you know the dog turns away to bolt back across the street and it gets hit by a car. I let out a scream as if it were my Foxy. I yelled out "NOOOOOOOO, nooooo, omg, somebody help!" The driver stopped at the corner then ran back screaming himself (he thought he hit a kid or something) I'm screaming at the top of my lungs "Your dog! somebody's dog, OMG, somebody's dog! come out and get your dog!" The driver stood with the dog and called 911. The dog was convulsing and yelping :(
out comes this guy strolling towards me saying "yeah, yeah where's my dog" I said "he's laying in the street!" I was on the side walk still with Foxy. The driver is shaken up and pissed bcos 911 hung up on him. He asked "was there a collar, where does he live?" I pointed to the man and said "he's the owner". The dog stopped moving and the owner picked up the dog. The driver was apologetic and wanted to exchange numbers or try to get him a new dog. I stood there distraught and angry. Why would you just let your dog out your house without a leash to do it's business. It was midnight and our block is dimly lit. I've seen the dog in the past running up and down the block and back and forth across the street. The street is not a gated yard, you can't just open the door and let your dog roam the street! After the dog owner walked away with his dog's limp body, I told the panic-stricken driver that it wasn't his fault and the owner needs to be more responsible. I know Foxy wouldn't attack anyone but I know she doesn't look both ways b4 crossing the street. That image still bothers me, it was lying there so helpless.

Bummer :(

Last night while walking my dog another, small dog(similar to dog pictured above) was off the leash and at the top of the block. Foxy loves to chase but has been fiesty towards dogs lately. So when I saw the dog I immediately crossed the street. The other dog gave chase and ran across the street to us. I yelled out "Someone get your dog!" as i pulled Foxy away. The other dog kept following us, then I tried running. I didn't feel that dog was dangerous by no means, but I could only restrain my dog, if the other dog got closer

Deadly new cold strain

Wash your hands people, eat leafy greens and take your c's! There's a new strain of adenovirus which is a mutated version of the common cold. Typically, adenovirus causes non-deadly respiratory infections but this new variant has claimed 10 lives in the last 18 months in the US. So far those infected were as young as 12 days and as old as 62yrs old. Those with week immune systems are most susceptible to the virus so pop those C's people!

The railroad to freedom...

Economic freedom. The peninsula of Korea was separated between the communist North and the democratic South which led to the Korean war in 1950. Brothers at war, the two nations have battled it out and remained stonewalled until recent years. As a result of a three day meeting, both prime minister's agreed to run a cargo railway between the north and south to help improve N. Korea's economic development.

242 Died in Bangladesh Cyclone

Cyclone Sidr ravished Bangladesh's coastal villages and to count has claimed 242 deaths. The numbers are still coming in but fortunately after a 1970 cyclone which claimed 500,000, emergency shelters were developed.

Progress in the Middle East?

In Basra Iraq, 42 women have been murdered since July for being improperly dressed. Women who aren't dressed in strict Islamic clothing are being terrorized and hunted by Shia militias, they have even gone as far as traveling to the homes of these women and killed them in front of their children. The government sent a new police chief to the area to defuse the militia but even they are afraid. It's been 6yrs since we "liberated" Iraq but until we realize force feeding democracy to foreign nations doesn't guarantee political success, progress for civil freedoms in those countries may never happen.

All in the family

During the Blackwater congressional hearing yesterday, US State Dept. Inspector General Howard Krongard's admitted his brother worked for the private security firm and had to "recuse" himself from the hearings.
Are we really surprised a top government official has a family member on the advisory board of Blackwater. Why else would these inexperienced officials take office if there was no gain financially after their "service".

Wear your hat!

Chlamydia is at a record high here in the US reaching 1 million cases. Known as the silent disease, Chlamydia is curable but with no symptoms they usually go untreated.
Syphillis and Gonorrhea are also on the rise. So kiddies

Huntin' season?

Khiel Owens, was shot dead by police officers in Brooklyn on Monday after his mother called police because her son was off his medication and needed help. The community is outraged at another death at the hands of police officers. To make sure our anger isn't misguided I'd like to pose a question to the people:

With Policemen what other force is there but deadly force?

The average beat cop isn't a sniper. We'd love to think they are trained arms men so they should be able to "take out" the bad guy by shooting their leg, have you seen their shooting range targets? They don't practice shooting legs and arms at the range.

The real issue should be the use of automatic handguns by NYPD. Back in the 90's Ray Kelly made the case to keep the 6 shooter Smith&Wesson by pointing out the amount of cop's stray bullets hitting bystanders and the possible increase if 9mm were used. Governor Cuomo bought them anyway. Transit police chief Bratton, issued them for transit cops so it was inevitable NYPD would use them too. At that time Kelly restricted the 9mm to 10 shots and a stiffer trigger. When Bratton took over in '94 he switched to 15 shots and 1 in the chamber.

So here's my plea to Ray Kelly, let's take away the risk of "accidental" killings by officers by restricting the bullets and force needed to pull the trigger. This isn't the wild, wild west, police aren't in full on street shoot outs, there is no need for their handgun to release 3 bullets with a squeeze of the trigger.

C'mon people is it really that bad?

Hillary Clinton's jr. campaigner is accused of planting questions at an Iowa rally.
Does it really matter? I mean really people, at this point the questions and answers are redundant from all candidates, what's the big deal if they planted a question to address certain issues. At least she isn't straight jackin' votes.

Dude, how will I get to Thailand to surf?

British Airways has decided to ban surf boards from it's flights stating they are unsuitable for airport baggage systems. How will my baby Kelly get his board to Thailand to surf? Bummer :(

We didn't pay 4 this!

MIT sues architect Frank Gehry for a $300 Million dollar design project for it's Stata Center building in Cambridge, Mass. MIT alleges since it's opening in 2004 it's been falling apart noting leaks as part of the problems with the structure. Uuh...just caulk it with some silicon gel folks, it will be all right.

Uuuhh... No thank you!

After the UN's second meeting with Myanmar's government since September's Monk uprising, the Junta kindly tells Mr. Gambari no thank you to UN mediation in the matter. 'We've got this'(paraphrase)"We will welcome positive co-ordination and co-operation for Myanmar [Burma] affairs, but will never accept any interference that may harm our sovereignty,". So don't look for positive change anytime soon my peace lovin' subscribers.

What, no All my Children!

It's official, the Writer's Guild is on strike for better wages. So wave goodbye to your late night talk shows and soap operas; the other television shows will follow shortly after(they film episodes further in advance)
If the results from the 2000 SAG strike lead to all the awful reality shows we see now, what will happen with this one?

in the name of Terrorism

If you don't get what you want, take it in the name of Terrorism!

Musharraf calls a proclamation of emergency for Pakistan which has lead to hundreds of arrests of opposing politicians, judges and lawyers. Part of this emergency plan is the take over of the media, all tv networks and newspapers have ceased. And this is all done in what Musharraf claims to be an offensive against terrorism.

Da Weekend Update...

It's soooo easy to become a casual drunk in my neighborhood, there are pubs and bars on every corner. The Wall Tavern use to be my haunt when I lived on 53rd and Roosevelt Ave but lately I've been taking the train 3 short stops to Astoria for a drink. Friday night I decided to re-introduce myself to the Woodside Pub scene by having a Guinness at Sean Og Tavern on Woodside Ave. All I can say is goooood times ;) I love making new friends

Saturday: WARRIORS! we beat Port Richmond 36-14

Sunday: A day of worship at the Church of Football
Usually my son has a football game on Sunday so I don't get to watch a full day of games but I was able to watch the Jets lose in overtime :(
The Pats comeback and win over the Colts in the last 4 mins.
And most importantly my Cowboys beat the division NFC Champs 38-17
Check out the play of the night

Grown Folk all dressed up

We planned to go party hopping on Halloween but "Don" and I made it to only 2 parties and "Super Soul Sheba" came st8 to the last one. Worship Worthy's party was our last stop at 205 Chrystie. We partied with equestrians, Teen Wolf and 4 Deadly Sins (Centipede didn't show up).

Don't cry for me Argentina

Compared to Eva Peron, Christina Fernandez de Kirchner was elected Argentina's 1st woman president. As Nestor Kirchner's successor (her husband) Argentina is now amongst the list of nations which have/had a woman head of state. Will Hilary make the U.S the next?

It's about time!

Genarlow Wilson was released from jail on friday after serving 2 yrs in prison for having consensual oral sex with a 15yr old girl, he was 17 at the time. Wilson was a honor student and football star in high school when he was arrested for raping the young girl. The jury found him not guilty of rape but the D.A charged him with aggravated child molestation punishable of a mandatory 10 yr sentence. Finally, the state supreme court overturned the erroneous conviction and Wilson was set free.
