Sitting on our hands?

I guess so. This is the boiling point for Burma, this has been going on for decades. Burmese people want "freedom and liberty" from the military government in power. UN convened for it's annual General Assembly and this is what has come of these talks:
US and EU- tightened already imposed sanctions
China and Russia- they say let them work it out it's nobody's business but Burmas
ASEAN (Assc. of S.E Asian Nations)- Sitting on their hands and doing nothing about what's going on- India, China and other Asian nations tap Burma's oil and gas resources, why would they do something.
I guess I expect too much from humanity. Bosnia, Rwanda, and currently Darfur, need I say more.

Fired up! Ready to Go!

I need to invest in a new camera : ( This rally was a massive mess as far as logistics. For those who are familiar with the layout of Washington sq. Park you are familiar with the fountain in the center of the park near the Arch. They tried to "control" the crowd by herding the crowd through one entrance on the East side of the park through 4 metal detectors. While outside of the rally area, stuck in the crowd, Obama was introduced and he began his speech. Upset at the low sound system and slow moving "line", frustrated ralliers began chanting "let us in, let us in!". Well Barack heard us loud and clear. He stopped his speech and they again, slowly, started letting people in. After 30mins of little progress they halted all metal detection and bag searches and opened the flood gates. The crowd cheered, moved into the rally area in an orderly manner and the rally began. I wish i had video so everyone could see how Obama had the crowd riled up! or should i say Fired up! and Ready to Go!

If you don't stand for something....

The saying goes "If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything". The political process may seem hard to follow or you may be like thousands of other jaded voters but if we don't stand up and make sure we are heard then what's the use in complaining- Ever! I'm not saying vote for Obama or Hilary or John McCain, that is a personal choice, but if you're not active in the process then you can't expect change. Now if you are an Obama supporter, hustle on down to the rally at Washington Square Park this evening at 5pm. C-ya there!

Say What?

I love watching political debates. There's always a candidate that puts their foot in their mouth. Tune into PBS and watch the All-American Presidential Forums moderated by Tavis Smiley held at historically Black college Morgan State in Baltimore Maryland. This is a debate between Republican Presidential candidates, even though Rudy Guliani, John McCain, Mitt Romney and Fred D. Thompson(they are the Republican front runners) opt out of attending, it will be interesting to see how Republicans answer the tough questions that effect Americans today. Tune in to your PBS station tonite 9pm- 10:30pm.

Whoa Baby!

This is Nadia born 17.5 lbs via cesarean section (not that natural childbirth was an option, ouch) The record on hand was set back in 1955 in Italy when a bouncing baby boy was born at 22.5 lbs. What are these mamas eating in Europe?!

Life Sucks!

Ok, yesterday my coffee percolator broke so I'm working with no caffeine- yikes! It was my Feistaware coffee pot : ( This morning my building's water main pipe broke! This sucks!

The Revolution will be televisied!

Enough is Enough! After decades of resistance against oppressive military rule the torch for democracy has a new, unlikely bearer.
The highly respected and traditionally neutral Burmese Monks and Nuns said enough and took to the streets last week. They vow to peaceful march until the government is toppled. Yesterday the government imposed a curfew to counter the Monk's demonstrations. They continued to protest and this morning was met with violence. There are countless reports of injures and at least one fatality.
And thanks to postings on YouTube by opposing democratic groups, they were able to bring global attention to their struggle. Viva la Révolution!

Preppy vs Urban

Continental Airlines is bowing out of their contract with the NJ Sports Arena in Rutherford, NJ; temporary home of the Nets and former home of NJ Devils. The top bidders are Izod, Southpole and Rocawear. It's awesome to see two "urban" clothing lines battling against the "preppy" clothing line for business.

Welcome to my Blog!

Welcome to my blog. And yes, I really don't have cable. Some people think its incomprehensible to live without cable, not to mention raising a teenage son in a house without cable. With the quality of basic network programming at a high, fabulous PBS programming and comical public access shows, who needs Flava of Love! No cable, no Tivo or DVR to tie me to my couch so my blog will talk about everything else going on in NYC and the world today.
Enjoy!
